As custodians of the National Cycle Network, we couldn't be happier to see the signed routes and paths across the UK used by millions of people every year. But we don't want to stop there. We want to keep making the Network better, getting more people using it and creating paths for everyone.

Stepping off the road to nowhere: Why we need to change direction on building homes

Too often, sprawling housing developments have been built without public transport links or basic amenities.

This builds over large areas of countryside and forces people into car-dependency or a feeling of isolation.

Our new report, in partnership with Create Streets uses a real-life proposed development in Chippenham, where 7,500 new homes have been planned, served by a new 拢75m road.

Our report shows how better design and investment decisions 鈥 based on 鈥榞entle density鈥 and sustainable transport 鈥 can deliver the same number of homes on just 40% of the land.

Bringing disabled people鈥檚 voices into the heart of decision-making can improve walking and wheeling for everyone.

We鈥檙e calling on local and national governments to give disabled people a voice when it comes to decisions that affect how they get around their local area.
